INSIDE OUT 5: A Community Celebration of Vitality
Pillsbury House + Theatre, Pillsbury Creative Commons, KRSM Radio, and
community partners invite neighbors from across Minneapolis to gather
for INSIDE OUT 5, a free community block party celebrating
creativity, healing, wellness, and connection.
This year’s theme is Vitality: what it means, how we
nourish it, and how we build it together.
Inspired by community conversations around health, healing, belonging,
and resilience, INSIDE OUT 5 brings together artists, healers, community
organizations, local businesses, and neighbors for an afternoon of live
performance, music, food, creative activities, wellness experiences,
health and wellness resources provided by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of
Minnesota, and opportunities to connect.
Through a community health survey conducted by Pillsbury House + Theatre,
South Minneapolis residents identified mental health, burnout, access to
resources, and opportunities for connection as top community priorities.
In response, INSIDE OUT 5 will feature community healing and wellness
activities in collaboration with Blue Cross, family-friendly programming,
local artists, creative experiences, food provided by Cooks of Hope, and
access to organizations supporting the well-being of South Minneapolis
residents.

Our entire season has been about connection to home, and this year’s
block party is bringing home Queen Drea as part of our Makers Series,
making space for world-class artists here at Pillsbury House + Theatre.”

Queen Drea:
Born on the Fourth of July: From Mississippi to Minnesota
A featured component of this year’s event is PH+T Makers Series Artist
Queen Drea’s immersive interdisciplinary performance and installation,
Born on the Fourth of July: From Mississippi to Minnesota.
Through music, poetry, layered sound design, oral history, and family
archives, the work traces the journey of Queen Drea’s mother from
Mississippi to Chicago and Minnesota, reflecting on Black womanhood,
migration, caregiving, memory, and legacy across generations.
Supported in part by the American Composers Forum, the
project blends experimental sound practice, live improvisation, and
archival storytelling into an intimate meditation on history, identity,
and freedom.
Featured Community Experiences
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Mobile Health Unit
Access physical exams and general wellness checks, blood pressure,
diabetes, weight and height screenings, and connections to community
supports and resources.
Healthcare Reparations Cooperative’s Imaginarium
Step inside the Healthcare Reparations Cooperative’s Imaginarium, an
interactive installation that uses speculative futurities to immerse
participants in what healthcare could be.
Through curated storytelling and interactive questions, participants
will challenge the status quo of power, economics, and knowledge
within today’s healthcare systems while imagining new possibilities
for community care.
This dreaming vessel is designed to inspire future, co-created mobile
care offerings born from community dreaming.
Community Care Zone
The people providing care in the Community Care Zone came together
during the winter of 2025–2026 in response to the I.C.E. occupation.
They have continued practicing matriarchal Indigenous care as a way
of building a more beautiful future rooted in healing, relationship,
and collective care.
What began as a gathering of caregivers has grown into an expanding
network of community members and partners who believe caring for one
another is how we strengthen our communities and shape the future we
want to live in.
The Community Care Zone will include bodywork, energy work, and
healing professionals representing a variety of modalities.
Brass Solidarity
Brass Solidarity is a collective of musicians, activists, and community members using their sound as a
voice for justice. We perform as a sonic occupation to heal, spread joy, inspire hope, and share love
while dismantling white supremacy and oppressive constructs. We were birthed from the movement for
Black Liberation in George Floyd square, meeting there weekly as a continuous offering to the
community. The music is by the people and for the people as a passionate campaign to celebrate
community, educate, and uplift marginalized groups.
Event Activities
Throughout the afternoon, enjoy:
- Community healing and wellness activities presented in collaboration
with Blue Cross - Live DJs and music from KRSM Radio
- An artist marketplace featuring local makers and creatives
- Community organizations and resource partners
- Nourishing food and beverages provided by Cooks of Hope
- Games, family activities, and creative experiences
- Block Party Bingo with a chance to win a bicycle from Full Cycle and
other raffle prizes
