In partnership with Aroha Philanthropies, we’re excited to offer a new virtual memoir class for adults ages 55 and up, beginning January 21st! This class kicks off the third year of memoir classes at Pillsbury House Theatre, which began in 2019.
Memoir On Life Changes & Transitions
Thursdays from 10 – 11:30 AM | January 21st – March 11th
Held Virtually on Zoom
Taught by Dr. Louis Porter and Masanari Kawahara, PHT Teaching Artist
The year 2020 was filled with changes, political, social, and otherwise. In these sessions, we will look at life changes and transitions. These times can be especially challenging and particularly wonderful. In addition to reviewing the foundation of memoir, we will examine those periods of transition in our lives, what they meant when they occurred and their lasting effects. It will be a time to take others into your worlds and perhaps better understand them as well.
Louis will lead the writing portions of the class, and Masanari will work with students to create images and diaries that tap into one’s memories and ‘hidden episodes’ (inspired by Lynda Barry’s methods).
No prior experience is required. Each week, the class will alternate between workshops and peer critique sessions.
To sign up, email info@pillsburyhousetheatre.org with your name and phone number. Registration is free, with a suggested donation of $20. Class size is limited, and priority will be given to participants who have not taken a CenterstAGE class previously.
