ABOUT
You’re invited to Pillsbury House + Theatre (PH+T) and KRSM Radio’s second annual Inside Out Block Party, this year slated for July 29, 2023 from 1-5PM, with a rain date of July 30! Inspired by artist Junauda Petrus’ new children’s book, Can We Please Give the Police Department to the Grandmothers?, Inside Out 2 explores a world where we are all loved, nurtured, and have what we need. Community is invited to be affirmed, fed, and to celebrate themselves, their neighbors and “grandmothers” of all dimensions in our community. Taking place in the Pillsbury House + Theatre parking lots between 35th and 36th streets on Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis, family-friendly activities include roller skating with Twin Cities Skate, a sound bath, a Grandmothers’ space, bouncy house, music from KRSM, an interactive photo booth, and food from Public Functionary Café.
In 2022 Pillsbury House + Theatre hosted Inside Out in celebration of our 30th anniversary as a theatre, KRSM’s 10-year anniversary, and to honor the legacy of Lorraine Hansberry with the Lorraine Hansberry Initiative’s To Sit Awhile Sculpture by acclaimed sculptor Alison Saar. Hundreds of community members attended the event and even more visited the attached Audacious Artist Series installation created by PH+T.
Inside Out 2 is made possible with the generous support of the City of Minneapolis, Penguin Young Readers, and the partnership of the Powderhorn Neighborhood Association (PPNA), the Central Area Neighborhood Development Organization (CANDO), Public Functionary Café, George Floyd Global Memorial, Twin Cities Skate, Babycake’s Book Stack, Full Cycle Bike Shop, Pillsbury Early Education Center, Yo’ Mama’s House, and Million Artist Movement.
We can’t wait to see you there!
