A “rite of return” about the right of return. “The Hebrew Lesson” is performed with live music and weaves myth, history, and personal narrative into the story of a thwarted journey to deliver an ancestor’s ashes to a homeland perverted by conflict.

Esther Ouray is an actress, puppeteer, dancer, director, teacher, and cultural activist. Her experiences include performances with At the Foot of the Mountain Theatre, Voices of Sepharad, Interact, Illusion Theatre, Jawaahir, and Zamya. She is also a longtime Associate Artist with In the Heart of the Beast Theatre. She was the artistic director of When We Look, a collaborative project telling the stories of women affected by war and genocide. She is currently directing The War Plays Project. In addition to performing, Esther teaches Hebrew school, climbs mountains, and calls her mother every day.
