Returning for autumn, we will continue Butoh practice for CenterstAGE 55+ to explore memories in our body cells and in movement. A resident teaching artist Masanari Kawahara will share Butoh practice through meditations, listening, and gentle activation of body, and will lead finding your authentic movement.
Butoh is a performance art/ post-modern movement theatre originated in Japan back in late 1950’s which he has learned from Gadu Doushin over the years. In these sessions, Masa will incorporate some physical theatre techniques, meditations in the practices.
No experience necessary in movement practices, but willingness to observe and be moved by memories dwelling from space, energy, and ancestors are welcomed.
Maximum of 10 people for the class size, and new students are prioritized but returners from summer session are welcomed. It will take place in the dance studio on the third floor at
Pillsbury House + Theatre.
On Fridays at 10am to 11:30am
September 15, 22, 29, October 6, 13, 20, 27, and November 3 for 8 weeks-session
