Continuing the journey of the bull-jean Experience and the bull-jean stories, Bridgforth’s distinctive voice conjures and activates this performance as witness and transformation. bull-jean / we wake will grace the Pillsbury House + Theatre stage from June 22 to July 2 and will be complimented by a Prayer on Demand Experience in the theatre lobby to offer individual contemplative and interactive components.
You’re also invited to the bull-jean & dem/dey back Book Party DOCUMENTARY Saturday, July 1 after the 3PM show. Produced by AdeRisa Productions and directed by Adelina Anthony, this documentary is based on a live event hosted by Leigh Robbie Gaymon-Jones from The Nest in Los Angeles. It features a conversation between Sharon Bridgforth and Daniel Alexander Jones, along with interviews and readings by Omi Osun Joni L. Jones, Sonja Perryman, Virginia Grise and Priscilla A. Hale.
Bridgforth and Jones most recently collaborated on the book all these things: a conversation, from 53rd State Press detailing the artists’ practices of making art and engaging the communities–living and ancestral–from which their work emerges. bull-jean/we wake is also published by 53rd State Press in bull-jean & dem/dey back.

In response to falling COVID-19 infection rates, Pillsbury House + Theatre will encourage but not require masks for most performances, while offering Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday shows as mask-required spaces.

PRAYER ON DEMAND

In addition to the gathering, you’re invited to engage with the POD (Prayer on Demand) experience. Facilitated by our Experience Doula Zola Dee, this private and sacred space of ancestry invites self-reflection and exploration of bull-jean’s life. Guests will have the opportunity to enter the POD space that will hold them and the ancestors they bring in healing and love. The POD will be available for 1 hour prior to each performance and outside of performance times as well.
