Join us on October 29 at 1PM for a conversation/celebration featuring Sharon Bridgforth, Daniel Alexander Jones and Alexis Pauline Gumbs (who will joining virtually) as they deep dive/queerly into questions around art-making, long term-ongoing collaborations, nurturing chosen family, and healing. There will be readings, dancing and great coffee.
‘bull-jean & dem/dey back’ collects two performance/novels centering Sharon Bridgforth’s southern-Black-butch-sheroe–bull-dog-jean . . . a raucous, sweet-talking, heart-aching wo’mn-lovvn-wo’mn and the fierce and beautiful community that surrounds her. A companion book, forthcoming from 53rd State in April 2023, features a conversation between Sharon and Daniel Alexander Jones.

‘Love Like Light: Plays and Performance Texts’ by Daniel Alexander Jones offers a panoramic view of Jones’s shifting, glimmering, transformational body of work. Each play a provocation to the possibility of a more just world with love as civic practice at its center, Jones’s writing moves with lithe and associative grace through histories personal, political, cosmological, and sublime.
‘Undrowned: Black Feminist Lessons from Marine Mammals’ by Alexis Pauline Gumbs is a book-length meditation for the entire human species, based on the subversive and transformative lessons of marine mammals. Alexis has spent hundreds of hours watching our aquatic cousins. She has found them to be queer, fierce, protective of each other, complex, shaped by conflict, and struggling to survive the extractive and militarized conditions humans have imposed on the ocean. Gumbs will be joining the event virtually.
This is a FREE event but RSVPs are appreciated. FACIAL MASKS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND, audience is capped at 100 guests. Please RSVP at the link below.
