Join us for Breaking Ice, Our First Mainstage Show of 2021!
Due to ongoing uncertainties around the pandemic, we didn’t announce a 2021 season last fall. However, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to dream up new possibilities for our Mainstage shows this year.
You may be familiar with Pillsbury House Theatre’s Breaking Ice program, interactive performances that cultivate courageous dialogue around issues of diversity, equity and inclusion. Due to high demand, Breaking Ice is often booked up and on the road.
This March, however, Pillsbury House Theatre is bringing Breaking Ice to you!
Adam Whisner, Melanie Wehrmacher, Ryan Colbert and Aimee K. Bryant in Breaking Ice.
What is Breaking Ice?
Breaking Ice performances blend drama, music, poetry, movement and humor in a series of dynamic scenes to explore how systemic inequities, implicit bias and common misconceptions show up in relationships, creating uncomfortable interactions that inhibit connection in all aspects of life. In each Breaking Ice performance, a diverse company of professional actors portrays real-life situations that occur in a variety of social settings: at work, in school, in social situations, and in the home.
Breaking Ice creates a safe environment for audience members to share a unique, highly energized experience that encourages empathy, openness and vulnerability and allows us to see ourselves and others in new ways. Performances illuminate commonplace, unintentional language and behaviors that may be misunderstood or hurtful to others. It opens the door for important dialogue around cultural differences and systemic inequities in a powerful and entertaining way.
An award-winning program, Breaking Ice has been a pillar of Pillsbury House Theatre’s offerings for the past 20 years.
Join us for three special-edition, virtual performances of Breaking Ice:

Saturday, March 6th at 7 PM
Sunday, March 7th at 6 PM
Performances will be held on Zoom, and the Zoom link will be emailed to ticket holders prior to the performance. Following the show, trained Breaking Ice facilitators will lead the audience in a reflective discussion to deepen awareness and cultivate accountability and action.
