CenterstAGE Spring 2023

The next offering from Pillsbury House + Theatre for CenterstAGE 55+ centers around body and movement and explore memories in our body cells. REsident Teaching Artist Masanari Kawahara will share Butoh practice, a performance art/post-modern movement theater originated in Japan back in late 1950’s which he has learned from Gadu Doushin over the years. Through meditations, listening, and gentle activation of body we will explore your own authentic movement. Through meditation and letting go of our daily life, together we will explore memories in our body and moved by them.

A divergent from a traditional memoir class, this class will investigate subtle cues in our body, a practice of listening. No experience necessary in movement practices, but willingness to observe and be moved by memories dwelling from space, energy, ancestors are welcomed.

This sharing is free. In person, and we will wear masks. Please wear something you feel comfortable. Option of seated movement as well, we work with own limitation/ability. No perfume on please, as we will be working on senses.

Max of 10 people for the class size. It will take place in the dance studio on the third floor at PH+T, Fridays at 9:30am to 11am.
June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, July 7 (tentatively) and 14.
