Nina Simone:
Four Women
By Christina Ham
Directed by Faye M. Price
Music Director Sanford Moore with Thomasina Petrus*, Erin Willis*, Aimee K. Bryant* and Traci Shannon onstage at PH+T. *Appearing courtesy of Actors’ Equity Association.
Christina Ham’s Nina Simone: Four Women continues at Pillsbury House + Theatre through September 27. Inspired by Simone’s song “Four Women” and the 1963 bombing of Birmingham’s 16th Street Baptist Church, the play explores how art, grief and resistance can become powerful catalysts for change.
Before or after the performance, audiences are invited to visit the NINA Lobby Display in the Art in Commons studio near the stairs. Shaped with the support of Assistant Director Ashawnti Sakina Ford, the installation features protest images from recent decades—including Twin Cities demonstrations responding to ICE—and a binder containing a song of protest for every year from 1963 to the present.
Guests are encouraged to explore the space and leave an offering in the guest book: a reflection, poem, song recommendation or other response inspired by the experience.

2026 Arab Film Festival
This September, Mizna celebrates the twentieth edition of the Twin Cities Arab Film Festival. We have been marking this milestone with an ongoing, multi-venue program, Looking Forward, Looking Back, which centers images from the history of SWANA filmmaking and our past festivals.
Through this framework, we confront the visual record, demanding more from the archive than a sentimental look at the past. While SWANA films have been repeatedly plundered, twisted, and aligned to colonial narratives, this year, our festival continues to consider what has been overlooked, discovering liberatory lessons the past might offer the present and future. The 20th anniversary edition of our festival presents special screenings, guests, and more.
When: September 23–27, 2026
Where: The Main Cinema, with closing day at the Walker Art Center
