The Pillsbury House +Theatre has announced the winners of the Bubble Up fund idea submission contest!!! Below are the ideas that will be funded and produced:
Artist Residency: Create an artist residency program to address capital improvements on the Pillsbury House + Theatre building while simultaneously giving neighborhood artists/craftspeople an opportunity to create a new work.
The Hip Hop Village: Hip Hop Village is multi-generational, cultural and non-discriminating event whose aim is to bring all communities together in celebration of hip hop’s true message of uplift. We invite all to speak, dance, share and create for Peace, Love, Unity, Knowledge, Work and Having Fun.
Land Trust Initiative: Have a down payment on a building to hold it and “buy” time to create a NEIC-like commercial land trust model, allowing for community membership and affordable commercial spaces.
Youth Entrepreneurship Coffee Cart: This idea would give teens a meaningful job experience while they interact with the community as they come to shows and other PHT events. We wouldn’t normally be able to make a cool artsy cart to sell drinks and baked goods without this funding. Youth would learn baking, money handling, and customer service skills. The cart would be a small, mobile, artistic piece of the lobby.
Youth Stipend Program: Stipends for youth in the Pillsbury House Power of Our Voices Performance Company to do peer education or community performances.
Thank you to all of those who sent in ideas, and we will keep updates of the awarded programs as they Bubble Up!!!
